Saginaw Supes Zoom Reunion 2020

With the Covid Conditions making the annual Saginaw Supes Walk-Up Reunion an impossibility this year, Hank, Peep, and Maddie got this hair brained idea of putting together a virtual Saginaw campfire on Zoom to get the Supes minions together.  About 48 of the loyalists logged into Zoom to share smiles, stories, and Saginaw goodwill before their afternoon naps.

Moderators Hank and Kathy loosen up the crowd

In vintage Zeus II style, Hank took command of the show from the beginning warming up the crowd with a bit of Saginaw Supes Trivia Jeopardy from which we learned the names of Saniford’s side kicks, that Mike Heiman was an art teacher, and that the whole missing campers at Longwood Garden’s thing was as a separatist hormonal plot.  For those who want to experience the full quiz there is a posting on this website to scratch that itch.

Next it was around the virtual campfire circle, you could almost hear the snapping embers, when over 20 of those on the session got their Zoom Moment to reminisce about their times at Saginaw and what they have been up to the last 60 plus years.  Lots of personal testimonials to camp’s formulating effect on their personalities, recounting awards and glorious camp accomplishments, some revealing tidbits about others who they used to call camp friends, and select other naughties heretofore unmentioned in the public space.

Included in the tales were anecdotes about Saginaw luminaries like Herbie, Mike, Hank, and others, descriptions of brief and not so brief romantic relationships, and even the logical connection between Willis, serving soup, and sexual relations.  Somehow, against the advice of counsel, they even agreed to let Jimmy Korman speak where we learned about the shadow lives of Julius Maximus and Julius Minimus.

If you watched the participant’s windows above there were lots of raised eyebrows, knowing nods, and cheshire smiles.  Like I said, it was your typical Saginaw campfire, without the marshmallows, in broad daylight.

The Hollywood Squares peanut gallery reactions…some great expressions

.

All-in-all this was a grand celebration of old camp friends who still enjoy each other’s company even if it has to be done over the cloud.  We look forward to the possibility, if medical science eventually prevails, of sharing jollies face-to-face in 2021 at the next Saginaw Supes Walk-Up Reunion.

Many thanks to Hank, Peep, and Maddie for pulling off this event and providing a welcome shaft of light to all of us in these otherwise gloomy times.

  1. I loved every minute of the reunion today. Almost as good as being back at camp! Especially appreciated even more so, because of the social isolation we find ourselves in at this challenging time. I hope everyone stays safe and well. Maybe next time we can end on a high note , with a chorus from The Pajama Game!
